Peslier continues Wertheimer association
OLIVIER PESLIER has signed a further year's contract as retained first jockey to the brothers Alain and Gerard Wertheimer, following his dramatic Arc victory aboard Solemia.
The news means Peslier will ride in the famous blue and white silks for an eleventh season, while Flavien Prat has also been re-signed as number two jockey.
"I'm delighted that such great owners have placed their confidence in me for an eleventh year," said Peslier, whose most famous exploits with the Wertheimers were aboard record-breaking mare Goldikova
Solemia's last gasp triumph over Orfevre at Longchamp brought Peslier a fourth win in France's premier Flat race and was a first Arc success for the brothers, whose father Jacques Wertheimer tasted success with Ivanjica in 1976 and again with Gold River five years later.
Peslier was continuing the trend he had set with two of previous Arc victories in the colours of his then chief employers.
"I won it for Wildenstein, for Lagardere and now for another great owner," he reflected. "I think it's true, it's always great to succeed in such circumstances."
Peslier could be reunited with Solemia if the owners and trainer Carlos Laffon-Parias elect to give the home-bred filly a swansong in the Japan Cup before retiring her to stud.
Among other potential stars for the future in the Wertheimer silks, Peslier can look forward to riding Prix Marcel Boussac heroine Silasol, as well as the unbeaten Andre Fabre-trained Intello.
