Novellist ruled out of Arc with fever
LEADING fancy Novellist will miss Sunday's Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe after being found to have a fever.
The brilliant winner of the King George had been prominent in the betting for the race before plans to travel from Germany to France were scratched at the last minute.
Trainer Andreas Wohler told the Racing Post: "Everything was fine until this morning when we took his temperature."
Connections delayed travelling plans but it was found a short time later that Novellist's temperature had continued to rise.
Wohler added that all plans for the horse have now been put on hold.
This is the second consecutive year that a Germany's Arc hopes have been dashed after reigning champion Danedream was prevented from travelling to France last year due to an outbreak of swamp fever in Cologne.
While German hopes have been dashed British hopes were dealt a blow on Friday when Al Kazeem was drawn widest of the 18 runners.
Having had time to contemplate that fact, trainer Roger Charlton is not as downbeat as some others.
"As long as there is enough pace in the Arc, particularly in the first three furlongs, the horse can slot in," Charlton told the Morning Line.
"I am not too disappointed. He has a great chance but the draw has not been helpful."
