Sulle Orme storms home for Ferland and Auge
Report: France, Wednesday
Longchamp: Prix de Montretout (Listed) 1m, 4yo+
SULLE ORME (Christophe Ferland/Julien Auge) swept down the outside to land the spoils by a head from the gallant Ball Prince.
The heavily-backed Nova Hawk looked a threat to all at the 2f marker, but her effort flattened out as she came home fourth.
The winner was settled in rear as New Outlook took the field along at a decent pace on the very soft ground.
Auge launched his challenge at around the same point in the home straight as Christophe Lemaire on the favourite butSulle Orme appeared to relish every yard in the conditions.
"He's won his Listed, so a Group 3 will be next, perhaps the Prix du Chemin de Fer du Nord [at Chantilly]," said Alexandre Miceli, who bred Sulle Orme and in whose father Jerome's colours the four-year-old runs.
"He didn't make his debut until May of his three-year-old career so he's only run eight or nine times," Miceli continued. "He's beaten some good horses here, so we're delighted," added the owner.
Nova Hawk was fourth in both the Newmarket and Longchamp versions of the 1,000 Guineas last season before finishing second in the Coronation Stakes.
"She got a little tired in the last furlong, but that's only normal on her first run of the season and on this ground," reported Lemaire. "But she showed a beautiful turn of foot between the two furlong and the furlong markers, and I think she'll come on a lot for this."
