RAZOR ROYALE, winner of the 2010 Racing Post Chase, has been put down after breaking a leg on the gallops on Tuesday.
The nine-year-old, trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies and owned by Chris Cornes, had returned to action at Ascot last month when second to Exmoor Ranger in the Grade 3 United House Gold Cup at Ascot, and was being readied for the Hennessy at Newbury.
Twiston-Davies, speaking at Warwick on Wednesday said: "He broke a hind leg on the gallops on Tuesday morning. He was being prepared for the Hennessy and was just doing a routine bit of work when the accident happened.
"I'm devastated, he was one of my best horses. He was a brilliant servant and it's such a shame."
Winner of five of his 25 starts, Razor Royale amassed over £160,000 in total prize-money.
