Henderson confirms Arkle option for Long Run
NICKY HENDERSON on Sunday followed the same line taken by Long Run's owner Robert Waley-Cohen, saying that his Grade 1-winning chaser may contest the Irish Independent Arkle Trophy, instead of the RSA Chase, at the Cheltenham Festival.
News that last month's impressive Williamhill.com Feltham Novices' Chase winner could be dropped in trip for his next outing - the 2m4½f Scilly Isles Chase at Sandown on February 6- was revealed on racingpost.com on Saturday, along with confirmation that his owner is keen that he be entered for the Arkle.
Bet365 have subsequently introduced the prolific Auteuil winner, who has raced once for Henderson, at just 8-1 for the Arkle, and on Sunday his trainer's words suggested that other bookmakers might not be long in quoting him either.
Henderson said: "He's a multi-talented horse who has a tremendous cruising speed, but I'm not convinced he's an out-and-out stayer.
"He's still a baby - until a couple of days ago he was only a four-year-old - and has his life in front of him, and the RSA Chase can be a gruelling race.
"Robert and I have discussed it and at this stage we have decided to keep all our options open."
