Nicholls favours Finale bid for Sam Winner

SAM WINNER, favourite for the Triumph Hurdle, is likely to have his next run at Chepstow on Saturday, despite also being entered for the Tolworth Hurdle on the same day at Sandown.

The Paul Nicholls-trained four-year-old, who is a general 4-1 shot for Cheltenham, is likely to line up in the Grade 1 Coral Future Champions Finale Juvenile Hurdle, where he could clash with the Alan King-trained Smad Place who is next best in the Triumph market.

However Nicholls, who has won four of the last six runnings of the Tolworth, will still be represented in the 32Red-backed race with the progressive Toubab.

Nicholls said on Monday: "I put Sam Winner in the Tolworth as he would be entitled to a handy weight but the weather doesn't look too bad and I will probablyrun him and Dolatulo at Chepstow."

Winner of a Listed race at Haydock last time out, Toubab is set to try and continue his progression by stepping into Grade 1 company for the first time.

Among the 14 entries for the race are the well-regarded Megastar and unbeaten hurdler Gibb River.

There was a total of 13 entered for the Finale at Chepstow. Along with the Nicholls pairing and Smad Place, Comedy Act and Maoi Chinn Tire - both unbeaten over hurdles - could line up.
