Injury forces War Pass retirement
BREEDERS' CUP JUVENILE winner War Pass, last year's champion US two-year-old, has been retired to Lane's End Farm in Kentucky, where he willstand at stud for the 2009 season.
The son of Cherokee Run had been sidelined since fracturing his near-fore ankle in April and, according to the Daily Racing Form, he has now been retired on the advice of vets.
Unbeaten in four races at two for trainer Nick Zito, he blotted his copybook at three with an unfathomable performance in the Tampa Bay Derby, where he finished last.
He came back to something like his best when second in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial in April, but then injury struck.
"It was just one of those injuries that neverhealed the way it was supposed to," said Lane's End owner William S Farish.
"It healed enough that he should have a happy and sound breeding life.
