Watering possible before Newmarket's July cards

THE GROUND at Newmarket is good to firm in the week before the July festival, which begins on Wednesday with the prospect of the course being watered.

Clerk of the course Michael Prosser said on Friday: "The ground is good to firm with a going stick reading of 8.6.

"We missed the showers totally on the July Course today and on Saturday it looks dry with, potentially, the same on Sunday.

"The most likely days when we may get a little rain are Monday and Tuesday but we wil review the weather forecast tomorrow morning and if the potential rainfall doesn't look significant we could water on Saturday."
