DOCTOR FREMANTLE bounced back to form following a disappointing performance in the Hardwicke Stakes at Royal Ascot, when coming from last to first to lift the feature race on day two of the July festival.

Ryan Moore was happy to settle the 8-1 chance at the rear of the field as Schiaparelli, acting as a pacemaker for Campanologist, cut out the early running.

Moore followed favourite Duncan into contention before bursting clear at the furlong marker. Both Duncan and second-favourite Campanologist proved rather disappointing and tamely dropped away as the pace quickened.

The main danger looked to be Alwaary in the hands of Richard Hills, but just as he made his challenge up the rail, Schiaparelli closed the door, which forced Hills to switch round the Godolphin horse.

Alwaary stayed on again close home but just failed to catch Schiaparelli for second, as Doctor Fremantle went further clear on the run to the line.

Following a stewards inquiry, Alwaary was placed second with Schiaparelli demoted to third place. In a separate inquiry the stewards demoted Enroller, who finished fourth, to sixth place after he was judged to have caused interference to All The Aces inside the final two furlongs.

The winning jockey said: "He settled really well and I thought the best tactics were to follow Duncan through.

"The gaps came at just the right time and he quickened well to win with a little in hand."

Sir Michael Stoute, winning his seventh Princess of Wales's Stakes, added: "I don't know what happened in the Hardwicke.

"We thought he was oneof our best chances at Royal Ascot, but that ended up being a funny race.

"He's run three times for us this season and has won a Group 3 and a Group 2 and he's a horse we've always been keen on.

"He has alot of options. I'd say the King George may be doubtful as he's had two runs quite close together. He is entered in the Juddmonte International at York."
