Bahrain Trophy (Group 3) 1m5f, 3yo
JOHN GOSDEN and William Buick have teamed up to win two of the last three Ladbrokes St Legers and look to have another contender on their hands for the race in the form of Feel Like Dancing, who claimed the Bahrain Trophy on the first day of Newmarket's July festival on Thursday.
Ladbrokes, Paddy Power and Coral go 20-1 about the son of super-sire Galileo emulating Masked Marvel, who won the 2011 Bahrain Trophy before giving Gosden and Buick their second successive St Leger triumph following Arctic Cosmos the previous year.
Gosden also saddled Shantaram to win the Newmarket Group 3 last year, but he missed the Doncaster Classic, something the champion trainer hopes does not happen with Feel Like Dancing, who also runs in the colours of Lady Bamford.
"The horse has done it very nicely," said Gosden. "He had good form from Royal Ascot.
"Masked Marvel won this and the Leger and we won it last year and wanted to go for the Leger, but it didn't work out - let's hope we can get there this year.
"He's a young horse and is still learning."
Sent off a 3-1 chance, Feel Like Dancing, who was second to leading St Leger fancy Leading Light in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot last month, beat 33-1 outsider Jathabah and Havana Beat, who returned at 5-1.
Buick was also impressed with the winner's performance and said: "He's still inexperienced, but I thought he did it well. He battled on gamely and fought them all off.
"He's going to improve as the season progresses and could be quite exciting towards the backend.
"He doesn't need to get much beyond this trip, but will definitely get another furlong."
