Watering continues as Newmarket stays warm
NEWMARKET clerk of the course Michael Prosser ordered a second bout of watering for the Rowley Mile on Thursday with the weather continuing to stay warm and dry and very little rain forecast before the weekend.
The going was good to firm (good in places) after the track was irrigated with 6mm of water on Wednesday with the GoingStick reading having risen slightly to 8.7 when taken at midday on Thursday.
"Bearing in mind the predominately dry and sunny and warm forecasts we will irrigate the whole course again, putting approximately 6mm, tomorrow morning with the plan to be finished by lunchtime," Prosser said.
"We have had plenty of sunny spells today with temperatures of 15C," he said. "The forecast is to be dry overnight and dry on Friday with temperatures reaching 18C and quite a stiff breeze with gusts of 30mph.
"There is a weak front coming through on Friday evening but negligible rainfall, approximately 1mm. Saturday will be overcast first thing before it disperses to leave a very pleasant day and Sunday is slightly warmer with temperatures of 16 or 17C."
