Top Offer faces Grimm test in Greenham

LEADING Qipco 2,000 Guineas prospect Top Offer will have Sir Robert Ogden's similarly unexposed Tales Of Grimm to beat in Saturday's Aon Greenham Stakes at Newbury.

Frankel, like Top Offer owned and bred by Khalid Abdullah, won last year's Greenham before scooting home in the Guineas, and connections of Top Offer will be hoping the Group 3 will also prove a springboard to Classic glory for their Newbury maiden winner.

Tales Of Grimm is one from one as well, having won the other division of Top Offer's maiden at Newbury last August.

Five others will also go to post for the £55,000 trial, which is preceded by the Qipco 1,000 Guineas stepping-stone that is the Dubai Duty Free Stakes, better known as the Fred Darling.

However, with Best Terms the shortest-priced for Newmarket of the nine Newbury declarations, at around 25-1, this contest does not threaten to be as informative about the Qipco 1,000 Guineas as the colts' trial should be for the 2,000 Guineas.

The John Porter, also sponsored by Dubai Duty Free, is the other Group 3 at Newbury on Saturday, and seven will go to post. The 2010 St Leger winner Arctic Cosmos is among them, but Patkai, who is on the comeback trail, is not.
