Guineas fancy Top Offer in line for Greenham

THE Roger Charlton-trained Top Offer, a best-priced 13-2 third favourite for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas with BetVictor, heads 16 entries for Saturday's Group 3 Classic trial at Newbury, the Aon Greenham Stakes.

A course winner last season, the son of Dansili pleased in a workout over 6f last weekend and Charlton said the plan was to run at Newbury unless ground conditions became testing.

"Top Offer will improve for this run but I'm certainly not saying he'll need it," said Charlton, who trains Top Offer for Frankel's owner Khalid Abdullah.

Other Guineas entries engaged in the Greenham include the John Gosden-trained Fencing and Tales Of Grimm, who is trained by Sir Michael Stoute. He won a maiden on the same card as Top Offer last August.

Newbury also hosts the Dubai Duty Free Stakes, a trial for the Qipco 1,000 Guineas.

Godolphin's Group 1 Fillies' Mile winner Lyric Of Light, 9-1 with William Hill for the Classic on May 6, and Richard Hannon's Best Terms (25-1) are among the 19 entries.

Patkai, not seen since finishing second to Yeats in the Ascot Gold Cup in 2009, could return under the care of Rebecca Curtis in Group 3 Dubai Duty Free Finest Surprise Stakes (registered as the JohnPorter).

The going at Newbury was described as good, good to firm in places on Monday.
