Newcastle: going has eased after overnight rain and may ease furtherPICTURE: Jon Winter
Newcastle goes ahead after inspection cancelled
RACING at Newcastle on Tuesday goes ahead after the track thawed out sufficiently overnight to cancel a planned 8am inspection.
Clerk of the course James Armstrong had decided to call an inspection on Tuesday morning after the track had shown only slight improvement at a 2pm check on Monday.
However, Armstong had remained optimistic that racing would be on and the Tuesday inspection was cancelled after temperatures remained above freezing and 6mm of rain fell on the track.
With the overnight rain the going has eased to soft, good to soft in places with more rain possible before racing starts at 12.40pm.
