FRANKEL will face no more than eight rivals when the world's top rated racehorse begins his four-year-old campaign in Newbury's JLT Lockinge Stakes on Saturday.
The colt was one of nine left in the Group 1 race but the contenders come from just four stables with Sir Henry Cecil including possible pacemaker Bullet Train, Aidan O'Brien three and Richard Hannon and Charlie Hills two horses each.
Excelebration, transferred to O'Brien since finishing second to Frankel in last year's Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, is expected to head the Ballydoyle challenge that could also draw on So You Think and Windsor Palace.
The Hannon stable has Strong Suit and Dubawi Gold while Hills could run Red Jazz and Ransom Note.
Frankel, whose participation in the race had been in doubt after a setback last month, confirmed himself on target for the 1m prize at Newmarket's Rowley Mile racecourse on Saturday, where he delighted Cecil in the second of two workouts on the track.
