Netscher on track for Greenham after workout

CASPAR NETSCHER, the Gimrack winner, booked his place in the Greenham Stakes at Newbury next weekend after pleasing connections in a pre-racing workout at Nottingham on Wednesday.

Martin Harley had the leg up in the breeze over 5f with 79-rated lead horse Eastern Breeze and Spindrifter Stakes winner Sans Loi.

He had to be shaken up to go five lengths clear of his eased work companions but both trainer Alan McCabe and Harley were pleased with the effort.

McCabe said: "That's the objectives achieved - I just wanted to take the freshness out of him before Newbury.

"There's no jockey plans for the Greenham yet and it's great to have such a good bunch of jockeys who ride for the stable in Kieren [Fallon], Shane Kelly and Martin [Harley]."

Harley added: "He's in great nick and has definitely trained on and strengthened up."

Caspar Netscher is 33-1 for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas with Ladbrokes, although double that price with Stan James.
