Nest claims Park Express for red-hot Bolger
Report: Curragh, Sunday
Lodge Park Stud E.B.F. Park Express Stakes (Group 3) 1m, 3yo+ fillies
THE weather is icy cold but the Jim Bolger stable is red-hot. The trainer claimed his third win from as many runners on the opening day of the Irish Flat turf season as Rehn's Nest defeated odds-on favourite Yellow Rosebud.
It had begun in the very first race of the season as Saburo took the 5f two-year-old maiden under jockey Kevin Manning before Caesaria added the 6f three-year-old maiden for the same combination.
Rory Cleary took over on Rehn's Nest but the result was the same as the three-year-old tracked pace-setting More Than Sotka before taking over with two furlongs to run.
Rehn's Nest, carrying the familiar white and purple silks of Bolger's wife Jackie, stuck on gamely down the centre of the track and was always holding Yellow Rosebud.
It was the first time Rehn's Nest had found her way into the winner's enclosure and Bolger said: "She got through the ground which is unusual for one of mine nowadays. But I don't think she is ground dependent.
"She's in the Irish 1,000 Guineas and the Irish Oaks and as she is out of a Galileo mare I think she shoud get a mile and a half."
Bolger went on to the make it four wins on the day after Alpinist won the concluding race.
