Romanesco 'ticks a lot of boxes' for Troytown
GORDON ELLIOTT has two runners in his bid to win Navan's Ladbrokes Troytown Handicap Chase and seems particularly keen on Romanesco.
The meeting was given the go-ahead this morning, which will no doubt please Elliott, who also runs Tharawaat.
"Romanesco has improved with every run since we got him and looked like the winner when he fell at the last at Cheltenham," said the trainer.
"He has a nice racing weight and a good jockey [Ruby Walsh] on his back, so he certainly ticks a lot of boxes. Tharawaat is badly handicapped but gets 7lb taken off thanks to Jane Mangan's claim and runs well fresh every year."
Romanesco is an 8-1 chance, while Tharawaat - one of four runners in the race for Gigginstown House Stud - is 25-1.
Elliott also runs the hugely exciting Don Cossack in Navan's 2m maiden hurdle and more future stars could be on show in the Grade 2 Irish Form Book Monksfield Novice Hurdle. The going is described as heavy.
There is no racing in Britain following the abandonments of Exeter and Towcester.
