Personal-best seasonal tally for Henderson

NICKY HENDERSON notched up another landmark achievement on Saturday afternoon, when victory with National Trust at Ffos Las took the Lambourn-based trainer'sseasonal tally to a personal record of 116.

The big moment was momentarily in doubt when Barry Geraghty's partnership with National Trust was endangered witha nose dive at the final flight, but the rider hung on to win the 2m4f handicap hurdle and bring up the record tally.

Henderson was crowned champion trainer at the Cheltenham Festival on Friday, where he saddled three winners, including Soldatino in the JCB Triumph Hurdle. He is also Britain's most successful trainer this season in terms of winners sent out.

Henderson's previous best winning tally - achieved last season - was 115.

Henderson's assistant, Tom Symonds, said: "We've had a terrific season despite the terrible weather over the winter, and a terrific Cheltenham with three winners.

"The one really sad happening this week was the loss of Fairyland, who unfortunately broke a leg yesterday in the conditional jockeys' hurdle."
