Godolphin buy Derby runner-up Libertarian
LIBERTARIAN could have his final start for Elaine and Karl Burke in the Irish Derby.
Godolphin have bought the Investec Derby runner-up and will leave the colt with the Burkes for the Irish Derby at the Curragh on June 29, but then a move to Newmarket looks likely although to which yard is still undecided.
Speaking to the Racing Post on Wednesday evening, Godolphin's racing manager Simon Crisford said: "Libertarian will stay with Elaine Burke for his next run in the Irish Derby. We will then decide where he will go. He could go to Newmarket and join one of our trainers there."
In an earlier press release on the Godolphin website, Crisford had said: "We are delighted to have acquired Libertarian. His form is excellent and it is great to have a new addition to our team. We look forward to seeing him run in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby on Saturday week."
The Dante winner is a son of Sheikh Mohammed's star sire New Approach and was a fast-finishing second in the Derby, with connections claiming the slow early pace may have cost them a possible victory.
