Mixed forecasts concern Chepstow officials
CONFLICTING weather forecasts - one for mild air and rain; the other for colder temperatures and the possibility of snow - continue to concern Chepstow clerk of the course Keith Ottesen in the run-up to Saturday's rescheduled Coral Welsh National meeting.
Ottesen said on Monday: "The forecast for the end of this week is unclear. We're looking at two weather models - one is warm and wet; the other cold. The track is covered, but what we don't want is snow. The covers can take care of a bit of frost, but I wouldn't want any snow."
A Met Office spokeswoman added: "It is difficult to be certain at this early stage, but we are forecasting some rain for the Chepstow area on Friday - potentially quite heavy at times. Saturday, though, should be mainly dry with some scattered showers."
The going at Chepstow is currently soft, good to soft in places.
