MISTER HUGHIE, winner of the Totesport.com Beverley Bullet Sprint last Saturday, could bid to add a second Listed race to his record after being entered in the Scarbrough Stakes on the opening day of the St Leger meeting.
A total of 22 have been entered for the 5f event next Wednesday at Doncaster, including a strong representation from the Bullet field.
Narrow runner-up Prohibit and third-placed Captain Dunne are joined on the card by Bullet sixth Look Busy, seventh Spin Cycle and eighth Noble Storm.
Ed McMahon, trainer of Noble Storm, said on Thursday that he hoped there was better to come from his four-year-old, who has been slowly recovering from a winter viral infection.
"The Scarbrough Stakes is a possibility but we could yet decide to run Noble Storm in the Ladbrokes Portland on Saturday," McMahon said.
"He had a virus over the winter and I just wanted to give him plenty of time to get over it.
"He performed okay when beaten under four lengths in the Beverley Bullet last time but I don’t feel that he’s quite finishing his races yet.
"If you look at his best form, it’s at courses with an easy five furlongs, places like Goodwood and York. Beverley’s a stiff five and he’s always been collared near the line in Listed races there, so an easier five at Doncaster will suit him better."
Other notable entries include the veteran Kevin Ryan-trained sprinter Benbaun and Group Therapy, recently second behind Borderlescott in the Group 2 Audi King George Stakes.
