Turbulent joins Pletcher after Coolmore sale

USA: Three-time Grade 1 winner Turbulent Descent will be transferred to Todd Pletcher's New York barn after being sold to Coolmore for an undisclosed sum.

News broke last weekend of the private sale out of Mike Puype's California barn, from where the four-year-old daughter of Congrats won the Hollywood Starlet as a two-year-old in 2010 before adding last year's Santa Anita Oaks and a brilliant victory in the Test Stakes at Saratoga.

Puype reflected on the loss of his stable star at Hollywood Park earlier this week. "It's a hard thing to have happen," said Puype, for whom Turbulent Descent won seven of her 11 starts.

"She's been nothing but good for everyone involved with her from the moment she first came to my barn.

"I knew it was coming to an end anyway," Puype added. "She was going to be sold after a few more races but the owners received an offer they couldn't refuse and that's what needed to be done. It came out of the blue. I didn't know anything about it until Friday. They closed the deal quickly and that was it."

Turbulent Descent, purchased for $160,000 at the Ocala Breeders Sale in April 2010, won the Desert Stormer Handicap on June 17 on her most recent outing.
