Peter Moody: won Saturday's Stradbroke Handicap and Queensland Derby

MID SUMMER MUSIC (Peter Moody/Luke Nolen) became the first mare to win the Stradbroke Handicap in 76 years when causing an upset in the Group 1 at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Mid Summer Music scored a decisive one-and-three-quarter-length win over gallant topweight Buffering, with Happy Zero a short-head away third in the $1 million feature.
The last mare win the race was Capris in 1936 and trainer Peter Moody rated the Stradbroke as equal to the thrill he got watching Black Caviar come to Queensland last year for her Group 1 BTC Cup victory at Doomben.

"When I came here last year with Black Caviar we expected her to win the BTC Cup and it was a big thrill," Moody said. "But to come home with this mare and win my first Stradbroke is something really special.
Moody, who will soon head to Britain to put the final touches on Black Caviar for the Group 1 Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot, praised jockey Luke Nolen for a superb ride.
"It was a tremendous ride from Luke. The mare really gutsed it out and I'd love to have a stableful like her."
Mid Summer Music, who had finished ninth to Sea Siren in the Doomben 10,000 last start, has now earned nearly $1.3 million in prize-money since her maiden win at Warracknabeal.

HEAVYWEIGHT Victorian jockey Brad Rawiller emerged from his brother Nash's shadow to become the toast of racing when he produced a brilliant ride to win the Queensland Derby on Brambles.
Rawiller made the most of a rare opportunity to ride for champion trainer Peter Moody in a big race and he turned in one of the great Derby rides to lead throughout on Brambles, who started the well-supported $3.40 favourite on the back of his last-start all-the-way-win in the Grand Prix Stakes.
"Geez he's a tough horse," Rawiller said. "That was a terrific effort, I was worried about the 300 metres when the others came at him but he lifted and was so strong to the line."
"That was a tough Derby, it was a strong field and he came up trumps - he's a very good stayer with a lot of class."
It was Moody's second win in the Group 1 Classic after Riva San in 2008.
"What a great ride by Brad it was," Moody said. "This horse is a tough, no-frills stayer. He's climbed another mountain by winning this race.
