Bell hopes to continue link with Spencer
MICHAEL BELL is hoping to continue his successful association with Jamie Spencer despite the jockey having signed a retainer to ride for Qatar Racing from January 1.
Bell has provided Spencer with the lion's share of his rides over the past five seasons, including 98 mounts in the current campaign, which have yielded 16 winners.
Only last month Wigmore Hall gave the pair success at the highest level when landing the Grade 1 Northern Dancer Turf Stakes at Woodbine.
On the domestic front they teamed up with Red Evie to win two Group 1s including the Lockinge Stakes in 2007.
After holidaying in Dubai, Spencer was back riding work for the Fitzroy House team as usual on Racecourse Side on Saturday morning. Bell said: "I am very much hoping to keep the association going with Jamie next year and I know he feels the same.
"We have been the biggest suppliers of his rides and winners in recent years and hopefully we can continue to do so. We may have to review the situation further if his new operation gets significantly bigger in the future. But I hope to continue to use him as well as Hayley Turner."
He added: "I understand Jamie is to remain living in Newmarket, so hopefully he will still be able to ride work for us when available."
