Classy Gamilati on top in UAE 1,000 Guineas Trial

CHERRY HINTON winner Gamilati (Mahmood Al Zarooni/ Frankie Dettori) began her Classic campaign in the best possible fashion when she strolled home in the UAE 1,000 Guineas Trial at Meydan on Friday.

The daughter of Bernardini, who flopped on her last appearance of 2011 in the Lowther, raced in midfield and made good progress entering the straight.

She then picked up to scoot clear of Alsindi, last year's Oh So SharpStakes winner, and the Stan Moore-trained Mary Fildes.

Victor Chandler cut Gamilati to 25-1 (from 33) for the Qipco 1,000 Guineas.

Before a European campaign, the odds-on winner will go for the Listed UAE 1,000 Guineas at Meydan on Fenruary 3.

Al Zarooni said: "I am very happy that Gamilati had an easy race today and wasn't put under pressure.

"I don't think that the race will take a lot out of her and she should improve for her first start of the year.

"Frankie Dettori gave her a clever ride and she should have no problem with the step up to a mile [in the Guineas] next month."
