Meydan: Nad Al Sheba Trophy Sponsored By District One (Group 3) 4yo+, 1m6f

GODOLPHIN'S Cavalryman (Saeed Bin Suroor/Silvestre de Sousa) was the impressive winner of the Group 3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy at Meydan on Saturday evening and looks set to prove a hard nut to crack when defending his crown in the Dubai Gold Cup in four weeks time.

The Willie Mullins-trained Simenon was never able to land a blow under Ryan Moore but was noted running on late to finish fifth, suggesting he will relish the Gold Cup's extra two furlongs.

Silvestre de Sousa took the winner to the front well over a furlong out and the pair soon had the race in the bag as Cavalryman shot clear of his rivals.

De Sousa said: “We knew he was fit and ready to run a big race. He quickens well for a stayer and I was always happy throughout the race. He will be a big player again on World Cup night.”

Paddy Power priced up Cavalryman, who placed no better than third in a three-race British campaign last summer, as a 16-1 chance for the Ascot Gold Cup.
