Meister Eckhart on trial for Coral Cup at Fontwell

MEISTER ECKHART, not seen since finishing fifth behind Brindisi Breeze in the Albert Bartlett at the Cheltenham Festival last year, has his first start for Alan King in the Grade 2 Totepool National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell (3.45).

Formerly with Rebecca Curtis, the seven-year-old could return to the festival should he run well in the 2m4f contest, as King said: "We are still learning about him, but I like what I have seen at home and he is a fine big horse who could be exciting over fences next season. However, if he runs well on Sunday we will try and get him in the Coral Cup."

Six runners have been declared, with Paul Nicholls responsible for half of the field. Brampour heads the weights, with Dark Lover and Prospect Wells the champion trainer's other contenders.

In Ireland, Don Cossack, Moscow Mannon and Annie Power clash in the Grade 2 paddypower.com Novice Hurdle, with a pair of Grade 2 chases also part of a cracking card. Towcester, which passed its inspection at 8.30am, also race.

Fontwell: Soft, good to soft in places, heavy on chase course crossings.
Naas: Soft to heavy.
Towcester: Good to soft, soft in places.
