Medinah produces Miracle to win Tattersall
Report: Newmarket, Thursday
Somerville Tattersall Stakes (Group 3) 7f, 2yo colts and geldings
MIRACLE OF MEDINAH, named after one of the biggest upsets in Ryder Cup history, was the surprise winner of the Tattersall Stakes.
The Mark Usher-trained colt was more than three times the price of golf's greatest comeback at 25-1 yet made light work of his seven rivals on his first start over seven furlongs.
Having jumped well and led early, Miracle Of Medinah was briefly headed by Godolphin's Silent Bullet - who faded tamely - before reasserting and powering clear of his rivals.
Liam Keniry partnered the colt to his fourth win, on his eighth start, to win the same race his sire Milk It Mick landed en route to his 33-1 shock Dewhurst win.
Usher said: "The fast ground is important to him and he had excuses on his last two starts. We may look at the Horris Hill at Newbury if the ground is suitable."
Cable Bay, the 11-4 favourite, was second, a length and a quarter back, with a further two lengths back to the third Nezar, both of whom beat Miracle Of Medinah on his last two starts.
