McCullagh and Murtagh join forces at Fairyhouse

JOCKEY Niall McCullagh links up with rider-turned-trainer Johnny Murtagh and leading owner Andrew Tinkler to have strong claims in the opening two races at Fairyhouse this evening.

McCullagh partners Pillow, a promising second on debut at the track 21 days ago, in the opening 7f maiden at 6.00.

“She should have come on quite a bit for that run,” the jockey said. “She has a nice draw, the step up one furlong will not bother her and she has a favourite’s chance.”

In the following race, McCullagh rides the former Richard Hannon-trained Global Icon, who makes his first start for Murtagh in the 7f handicap.

“He’s been going nicely in his work,” McCullagh added on At The Races. “He wouldn’t mind the ground and has a decent draw.”

The jockey, who does not ride in the feature Group 3 Brownstown Stakes for which Along Came Casey heads the market, also has two mounts - Imrite (7.30) and Cin Cin (9.00) - for trainer Andrew Heffernan on the card.
