McCoy rides first winner since return from injury

TONY McCOY rode his first winner since his return from injury when Kid Cassidy benefited from the early departure of Menorah in the Grade 2 Lightning Novices' Chase at Doncaster.

The 16-times champion jockey had made his return at Warwick on Thursday, 27 days after suffering broken ribs and puncturing a lung when unseating at Taunton.

He had finished second on two of his three rides since his return but got back in the familiar surroundings of the winner's enclosure on his first ride back over fences.

"It is nice to be back," said McCoy. "He is a nice horse and a horse I have always liked so I would not have wanted to watch him going around without being on his back."

It had first been thought that McCoy had only broken ribs when parting company with Laudatory at Taunton on December 30 but in an interview broadcast on At The Races on Wednesday he revealed that he had also punctured a lung.
