Master Of Hounds in line for quick return to action

MASTER OF HOUNDS could make a quick return to action at Meydan on Thursday with trainer Mike de Kock saying he was nearly certain to run in the Al Fahidi Fort.

The Group 2 contest is the highlight of another Dubai World Cup Carnival double header and the ex-Ballydoyle colt may take his chance having finished third behind Mendip in the second round of the Maktoum Challenge on Thursday.

De Kock has also entered Viscount Nelson and said on Monday: "I am 95 per cent certain that Master Of Hounds will run and we will decide about Viscount Nelson in the morning."

Derbaas won the race last year for champion trainer Ali Rashid Al Raihe who is enjoying a great season.

Al Raihe said: "He has been a model of consistency for us over the last two seasons and has run well on all his three starts this season, including last week.

"His best effort was in this race last year and he ran particularly well on his turf return to action. Obviously it is a good race but we are hoping for a big run."

Of the 22 entered, most have alternative options but Godolphin's Rio De La Plata, trained by Saeed Bin Suroor, has only this entry and is expected to take his chance.

The progressive Treble Jig, who has already won the Jebel Ali Mile and Jebel Ali Stakes, is also entered but Musabah Al Muhairi's star is more likely to run in the 1m2f turf handicap according to stable jockey Wayne Smith, who said: "We have most of our big guns out this week but we want to keep them apart."
