The winner of Haydock's Old Borough Cup, and the Mallard Handicap at Doncaster, Sir Graham Wade was settled by Fanning just behind a sensible early pace set by Kapirovska.
Plenty still had chances turning for home but having gone the shortest way round in the testing conditions, the son of Dalakhani had plenty left in reserve and was a length and a half too good for Opera Vert at the line.
Johnston had made the journey to the South Brittany coast and reported: "We think he's going be a very good horse next year, he's only three. That'll be it for this season, we'll put him away and then aim him at the Cup races next year."
Sir Graham Wade's stablemate Alta Lilea could only finish third behind Wingate (Henri-Alex Pantall/Fabrice Veron) in the day's other Listed race, the Prix des Sablonnets.
