Cough blamed for Shea Shea's King's Stand flop

SHEA SHEA, who was sent off at 9-2 in Tuesday's King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot but could only finish 11th of 16, was reported to have coughed post-race by trainer Mike de Kock.

Last year's runner-up was never able to land a blow, but De Kock revealed the seven-year-old coughed badly half an hour after the race, and said on his website: "This goes some way to explaining his run and we will be keeping a close eye on him."

Soft Falling Rain was the trainer's other runner on the card in the Queen Anne, finishing sixth of ten behind Toronado.

De Kock was happy with the five-year-old's effort, and added: "As noted he didn't have an ideal preparation at all, he ran a temperature and as a result we lost ten days of work which is vital at this level.

"Considering this he put up a credible showing. We'll see how he pulls up and look at our options. There are no firm plans for his next race."
