L'Unique on trial for Triumph in Adonis
L'UNIQUE's credentials for the JCB Triumph Hurdle will be tested at Kempton on Saturday when she lines up in the Grade 2 Adonis Juvenile Hurdle.
Trained by Alan King for owner Denis Barry, L'Unique has been successful in both of her starts in Britain taking a Listed mares' hurdle on her debut and following up under a penalty at Kempton last month.
The four-year-old is rated a 20-1 chance for the Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and King is keen to see how she handles the step up in grade at the weekend.
"She has done nothing wrong since arriving here from France, winning impressively each time," he said. "She schooled on Monday morning and was on very good terms with herself.
"We will find out on Saturday if she is a genuine Triumph contender or whether we lower our sights for the Fred Winter. I couldn't be happier with her, but this will tell us what we need to know."
King also dismissed any concerns about L'Unique's Triumph Hurdle chances based on her being a filly.
He said: "The fact she is of the fair sex seems to have the experts doubting her credentials, but Mysilv and Snow Drop both
took the Triumph for the girls so that doesn't worry me too much."
