LUCY ALEXANDER made history at Musselburgh on Thursday by becoming the winningmost female jockey in a British jumps season.
Her 23rd victory of the season, aboard Red Tanber in the 2m4f novice handicap chase, enabled Alexander to surpass a record set by Lorna Vincent with 22 in 1979-80.
Vincent still claimed 4lb when setting her record and 20 of her 22 victories were for Taunton trainer Les Kennard.
Alexander, 21, claims 5lb and her wins this season have come for ten different trainers.
She said: "I'm delighted and it's fitting it has come on Red Tanber. He's been great for me and loves it round here."
In Ireland, Nina Carberry recently surpassed Vincent's peak tally for the seventh consecutive season - her best score is 39 in 2009-10.
When asked whether she will aim to beat that record as well, Alexander said: "I'll give it a go."
