Cumani rules Man Of Iron out of Dubai trip
MAN OF IRON, winner of the Breeders' Cup Marathon when trained by Aidan O'Brien last November, will bypass the upcoming Dubai Carnival in favour of a summer turf campaign.
Owners Samanda Racing purchased Man Of Iron prior to his Santa Anita success, but original plans to send the colt to Dubai have been scrapped.
Trainer Luca Cumani said on Tuesday: "We decided that he had quite a tough season last year and we would give him a winter break and freshen him up for the summer - we could always take him to Dubai next year."
When asked if any particular races had been earmarked for the son of Giant's Causeway, Cumani added: "It's too early to say, but hopefully Group races. He's done well since he arrived and has put on a lot of weight, we're pleased with him."
There is still a seven-strong contingent out in Dubai representing Cumani, and the trainer hopes to have two of the string in action for the opening meeting on January 28.
He said: "They have been out there since mid-December and we will start stepping their work up soon. We're not totally decided yet but Drunken Sailor and Swop could both run on the first night."
