Ibicenco to represent Cumani on Saturday
Australia: After Gatewood's victory in the Geelong Cup on Wednesday, it will be Ibicenco's turn to represent Britain on Saturday when the Luca Cumani-trained four-year-old lines up for a Group 2 event on the Cox Plate card at Moonee Valley.
The ex-German colt, runner-up in the Henry II Stakes earlier this season, will be ridden by Craig Newitt in the Drake International Cup, where his rivals will include several fellow Melbourne Cup entries.
Sara Cumani admitted she is concerned about the tight Moonee Valley circuit for Ibicenco, who was scratched from last weekend's Caulfield Cup owing to a minor injury.
"'It's the first time we have had a runner at Moonee Valley and he is a big long-striding horse and it is the sort of track that you would not think of running him on in Europe," she said.
"But he's well drawn and is in good form himself. He's a happy horse at the moment and in a good zone so we'll see. One thing we do know for certain is that he needs really fast ground."
Ibicenco's stablemate Afsare, withdrawn from the Cox Plate after injuring a fetlock, left the Werribee International Horse Centre at Werribee on Wednesday to fly back to Britain.
