Louisiana Downs: Super Derby (Grade 2) 1m1f, dirt, 3yo
GODOLPHIN'S UAE Derby winner Regal Ransom returns to the track on Saturday night after a four-month absence following his unplaced effort in the Kentucky Derby.
The three-year-old son of Distorted Humor is ridden by Richard Migliore as he bids to maintain Godolphin's purple patch in the Grade 2 Super Derby, the richest event in the country this weekend at Louisiana Downs with a prize fund of $750,000.
Godolphin, who have four American Grade 1 victories to their name this term, won the Super Derby in 2002 with a similar type in Essence Of Dubai.
New York-based assistant trainer Rick Mettee commented: "Regal Ransom is doing really well and we are happy with him at the moment.
"He trained well at Saratoga all summer and he is ready to run again. Nine furlongs won't be easy coming back from a long lay-off, but he is such a generous worker that we can get him fit enough from doing his morning breezes.
"He takes his work very seriously and we are expecting him to run a nice race on Saturday."
Likely favourite, however, is Soul Warrior (Steve Asmussen/John Velazquez), who surprised Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird last time out with a late charge in the West Virginia Derby at Mountaineer.
