JOHN MAGNIER is looking forward to a "new beginning" for four-time Ascot Gold Cup winner Yeats, who bowed out with a gallant third in Sunday's Qatar Prix du Cadran.
The Aidan O'Brien-trained eight-year-old entire, will now retire to Coolmore Stud. Yeats ran with huge credit on his final start, finding only Alandi and Kasbah Bliss too strong in the closing stages.
Quoted on www.guardian.co.uk, Magnier said: "It's incredible to think he was trained as a two-year-old and then he was favourite for the Derby at one point.
"He's one of thegreatest stayers I can remember, the last one [like him] was probably Sagaro. We have had great fun with him and this is the beginning of something new."
Alandi's success completed a remarkable double for John Oxx andMick Kinane, following Sea The Stars record breaking Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe victory.
