Tote to launch new Pick Six bet on Sunday

LEOPARDSTOWN will on Sunday host the inaugural Tote Pick Six, a new bet that boasts a guaranteed pool of €20,000 and asks players to pick the winners of the first six races.

It will be run at one meeting every Sunday and at major festivals, including Punchestown in May and Galway in August. If there is no winning ticket the pool will be rolled over to the next applicable meeting.

Tote Ireland spokesman Dryden Geary said: "It's very similar to the British jackpot and we will still run the Irish jackpot from races three to six alongside it."

He added: "I don't think we could ever run a Scoop6 in Ireland because we don't have a consistent racing programme on television to get behind it. It works so well in Britain because it is supported by Channel 4 and The Morning Line. If therewas a racing programme on RTE every Sunday, we could probably do it."

All racegoers who arrive before the first race (12.20) at Leopardstown on Sunday will receive a free €6 Tote Pick Six bet.

The unit stake for a single line will be €1, with a 50 cent minimum for multiple lines.
