Furner's Green an easy winner of Guineas trial
Report: Leopardstown, Sunday
2,000 Guineas Trial (Group 3) 1m, colts and geldings
THE betting suggested this was a two-horse race, and so it proved with the odds-on Furner's Green comfortably seeing off second favourite Akeed Wafi in the four-runner 2,000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown.
Vault, the Aidan O'Brien-trained stablemate of the winner, led the field at a good clip from Akeed Wafi followed by Furner's Green.
Akeed Wafi challenged and took the lead after two furlongs out but was soon headed by Furner's Green, who lengthened well inside the final furlong to readily assert.
O'Brien and his son Joseph were completing a double following Forester's success in the opening juvenile maiden.
Furner's Green was given a quote of 33-1 for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas by Paddy Power and Boylesports.
O'Brien said: “He had a lovely run here first time and just came there the first day and got a bit tired.
“We always thought he was going to be a Guineas, French Derby type of horse as he travels and quickens well.”
