Dunguib targeted at Fly clash in Irish Champion

DUNGUIB has been ruled out of Saturday's Limestone Lad Hurdle and will have his first run since last April in theBHP Insurances Irish Champion Hurdle eight days later, when he will take on Stan James Champion Hurdle favourite Hurricane Fly.

Trainer Philip Fenton had intended to start Dan Hartnett and Lily Lawlor's star at Naas this weekend, but believes the hold-ups brought about by frozen gallops and snow have left the eight-year-old too short of work to run.

Fenton said on Tuesday: "He definitely won't run on Saturday and we will work towards the Irish Champion Hurdle now. He will work tomorrow and we can complete the rest of his preparations at home."

Dunguib was on Tuesday trimmed to 9-2 (from 5-1) by Bet365 for the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown on January 23.

The horse, who finished third in last season's Spinal Research Supreme Novices' Hurdle, is as short as 10-1 with Paddy Power to win the Stan James Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March.
