Winner of the Champion Hurdle in 2011, Hurricane Fly was third behind Rock On Ruby in last year's race, but has produced two convincing performances this term.
He is 7-2 to regain his Champion Hurdle crown at the Cheltenham Festival in March and warms up for the Grade 1 at Leopardstown, seeking his third win in the Irish Champion.
"We've been a lot happier with him this season compared with last season," Mullins wrote in his column in Sunday's Racing Post.
"He'll work during the week to put the finishing touches to his preparation for Sunday's big race and it's a case of so far so good with him at this stage."
