Lean On Pete bids to extend mean track record
WOLVERHAMPTON keeps the racing show on the road today which will no doubt delight Ollie Pears as the trainer saddles course-specialist Lean On Pete in the closing 1m1½f handicap at 5.35.
The four-year-old's latest track success suggested he was far from done with from a handicapping point of view and he could be capable of defying a further 5lb rise at a course where his record reads 322111.
Follow The Flag, runner-up to Lean On Pete last time, reopposes, while of the rest of the opposition, Noble Jack's Wolverhampton record also demands closer inspection as he is three from four at the course with that strike-rate improving to 100 per cent when ridden by today's jockey Jean-Pierre Guillambert.
Punters should note that the Polytrack is riding slow after the track was worked to a depth of three and half inches, although officials are aiming to re-instate towards standard as conditions allow.
