Collett in 'stable' condition following fall
EVENT rider Laura Collett is seriously ill in hospital following a fall at the British Eventing Horse Trials on Monday.
Wiltshire-based Collett, 23, who has been training dual Gold Cup winner Kauto Star in dressage since his retirement last year, suffered the accident at Tweseldown racecourse in Hampshire.
A statement on her official website read: "Following Laura's bad fall she is now in ITU in hospital. She has been stabilised and we will know more over the next 24 hours."
A further update was issued on Tuesday afternoon. The message read: "As a result of the damage to Laura's lungs it has been decided to give her longer under sedation and it is anticipated waking her tomorrow.
"Family and friends are very grateful for messages of support but sadly we won't be able to answer them all.
The incident comes just days after jump jockey Brian Toomey suffered serious heads injuries in a fall at Perth on Thursday. Toomey remains in an induced coma following surgery to reduce swelling on his brain on Sunday.
