Kingsgate "hopefully" on course for Prix de L'Abbaye

KINGSGATE NATIVE is set to resume work next week in preparation for the Prix de l'Abbaye at Longchamp next month.

John Best's sprinter had a slight setback, which meant he was not confirmed on Monday for Saturday's Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock, for which he had been ante-post favourite.

However, Best has had the dual Group 1 winner checked over and the three-year-old colt could still make the Longchamp 5f contest on October 5.
"We've had him thoroughly checked over by the vets and they can't find any reason why he's been stiff," said Best.

"It doesn't appear to be anything physical, so it's almost certainly just a muscular thing.

"Hopefully, we'll be going for the Abbaye as long as we don't get any more hold-ups."
