Haydock doubt for Kingsgate
KINGSGATE NATIVE is a doubt to line up in Saturday's Betfred Sprint Cup after coming out of the Nunthorpe Stakes "quite stiff", according to trainer John Best.
The Golden Jubilee Stakes winner heads the betting for the final domestic Group 1 sprint at Haydock on Saturday but a decision will be made this morning as to whether he will be left in at today's acceptance stage.
Best said: "He was quite stiff after Newmarket and has not come right as quickly as I had hoped. I will talk to John Mayne and Cheveley Park Stud to decide whether we should confirm or not.
"The horse is fit and well but I don't want to take him there unless I am 100 per cent happy with him. He has not come out of a race stiff before and that's the concern."
