Alianthus (Wilhelm Giedt/Stephen Hellyn), who was vying to win the race for a third time, set a strong pace and seemed to have most of rivals in trouble before the home turn.
King's Hall started to eat into his advantage approaching the furlong and, having drawn level with 200 yards to run, was not able to get past until the last few strides.
The gallant Alianthus went down by just a head in second and there was less than two lengths back to Felician, who came home last of the five runners in a blanket finish.
