Irish Hennessy legend Florida Pearl 'unwell'

FLORIDA PEARL, the King George VI Chase winner and four-time Irish Hennessy hero, is "unwell" but still alive, the Irish National Stud said on Tuesday responding to rumours he had died.

Speculation spread on Twitter that he had passed away but John Osborne, chief executive of the Irish National Stud, told the Racing Post the 20-year-old was still with them.

"He is unwell and has issues but he's alive," he said. "He's 20 years of age now and we have to respect where he is in life, but he's getting the best of care. He has been with us for five years now and is very popular."

In addition to his King George and Irish Hennessy victories, his major wins also included a Champion Bumper, a Royal & Sunalliance Chase and a Punchestown Gold Cup.
